Led by Battalion Chief Tim Garren, the Edneyville Fire & Rescue team is committed to operational excellence. Their facility serves as a critical base, demanding a clean, safe, and efficient environment to ensure rapid response times. To reflect their dedication to the community, the department sought to create a modern, inviting space, starting with the foundation – the flooring.
The fire station’s concrete floors were in dire condition, marred by wear and tear. The apparatus bay was especially problematic with deep-seated oil and dirt stains that defied weekly deep cleaning.
Edneyville Fire & Rescue sought a flooring solution that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The ideal floor needed to withstand heavy foot and vehicle traffic while maintaining its appearance with minimal upkeep. FloorPoxy met these demands by collaborating with the station to develop a customized solution. The process began by preparing the concrete surface through grinding to remove contaminants, creating an optimal base for adhesion. An epoxy primer was then applied to enhance bonding before installing the FloorPoxy Vapor Seal System throughout the station and garages.
This system employed a seamless epoxy resin fortified with a polished aggregate, creating a surface that is exceptionally resistant to the impacts, abrasions, and chemical exposures common in high-traffic environments. This composition is further enhanced by a seamlessly integrated cove base that eliminates potential harborage points for contaminants, ensuring a smooth transition from floor to wall.
The firehouse kitchens were outfitted with a decorative, textured floor, while the high-traffic lobby received a durable, aesthetically pleasing floor system. Together, these floors delivered exceptional durability, longevity, and ease of maintenance, elevating the firehouse’s overall appearance. By standardizing on FloorPoxy flooring, Edneyville Fire & Rescue achieved a cohesive look throughout the station.
Color was instrumental in the flooring design. A traditional red hue was incorporated to honor the global firehouse heritage, while the drive-through bays’ gray base with white lines offered a modern, clean aesthetic. The kitchen and lobby floors complemented the overall color palette, creating a cohesive and visually appealing space.
